Spring has Sprung!

Yes, it is here, spring weather, spring skiing and of course spring parties. Live outdoor music, pool parties, and great corn snow are on the schedule for this weekend at all the Lake Tahoe resorts.

Temperatures are forecast to be pushing 60 degrees by Saturday and with a great base of snow from recent storms the sping skiing should be excellent.

Squaw Valley is hosting the Sprint U.S. Freestyle Champoinship this weekend bringing some of the best mogul and halfpipe skiers in the nation to the hill. The mogul event takes place under the Red Dog chairlift at the Squaw Valley base area, while the halfpipe competition will be at the Riviera Terrain Park at mid-mountain. The event includes great parties at 22 Bistro in the village on Friday night (featuring guest bartender Jonny Moseley) and a High Camp pool party on Saturday afternoon from 2-5pm. Visit the website for a complete schedule of competition and events.

Other fun spring events include free ice skating in the Northstar Village, Live music at Alpine Meadows on Saturday afternoon, or....here's one for the kids, go over to Tahoe Donner Ski Area on Saturday the 28th to witness a 200 foot long banana split! That right, over 200 bananas and 40 gallons of vanilla ice cream will be put together with all the toppings to create this beast. The tasty treat is being served from 1-2pm so don't be late.

So, hit the hill, watch some great skiing, or just jump in a kayak for a little paddle on the calm spring water on the lake this weekend. It should be a great one!

First Days of Spring Bring Snow to Tahoe

You have to love the weather up here, after enjoying almost 60 degree weather for the past few days it looks like it will all change for the weekend. It's officially Spring and a storm is brewing in the Gulf of Alaska that has the potential to leave over a foot of new snow in the higher elevations of the Sierra! Visit the Tahoe Weather Geek for a great discussion about Tahoe weather conditions and forecasts.

Also today, Squaw Valley is starting an anniversary pass sale. Included in the sale are $179 spring passes that are valid for the remainder of the 2009 season starting on March 29th. But, the best deal being offered by Squaw are season passes for next season starting at $369!!...yes $369. That is unprecedented for Squaw Valley. The passes are being offered in celebration of Squaw Valley's 60th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the 1960 Winter Olympics at the resort. The passes are only being offered until May 11th and quantities are limited so get the the Squaw website soon.

Another great area offering comes from Moody's Bistro in Truckee and Baxter's at Northstar which are both offering their full wine lists at retail pricing! If you are up for night out this might be a good option.

Long Days

What a difference 6 feet makes!! The mountains are all skiing great again, the sun is shining bright, and it looks like the last couple months of the ski season are going to be spectacular!

After the storms of last week Tahoe ski areas are reporting anywhere from 4 to 7 feet of new snow! The skiing has been fantastic and the month of March is loaded with great events so come enjoy it up here!

The big event of next week is St Patrick's Day of course but there are others too. One event I would recommend is the Abilities Bash, a fundraiser for Disabled Sports USA Far West. The event takes place Saturday March 14th at the lodge at Alpine Meadows from 7-10:30 PM. The Ability Bash will honor Wounded Warriors returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. For more info visit http://www.disabledsports.net/ or call (530) 582-4161.

Jake's on the Lake is combing the spirit of giving with the St. Patrick's Holiday. Their holiday celebration on the 17th will include discounts, traditional Irish food, charity raffles benefiting Disabled Sports USA, and live music starting at 6pm. For detail call (530) 583-0188.
