Another great week on Tahoe is on the horizon! Hope to see you up here!!

Hit the trail this weekend with a 10K trial run at Northstar to the top of Mt. Pluto. Sounds like a tough one for me, but if you have the spunk join the run from the base to the top of the Northstar ski resort. Ski lifts will be available for use on the way down.

I hate to say it but summer is slowly winding down, so get out on the lake while you can!! Rent the Tonopalo Formula or some jetskis for a couple hours this week, or just get out on a kayak. Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Tahoe Summer!

All the toys are out at Tonopalo and the property is looking great! Get up here and enjoy some Tahoe time!

Start the weekend with a free Friday night outdoor concert at Northstar. The Vagabond Opera will be playing the Village Stage from 7-9pm. This is part of Northstar's Summer Kickoff which takes place all weekend at the resort.

If you miss the Friday concert visit Commons Beach in Tahoe City for a free lakefront concert on Sunday featuring Albino! There are not many better places to watch a concert.......a free concert at that.

Hike of the Week. Check out the hike of the week from http://www.tahoeloco.com/, the five lakes trail. This is a great day hike in Alpine Meadows. Pack a picnic and hike to these beautiful alpine lakes. HERE are the directions.

It looks like a gorgeous summer weekend so get on the water! Book the Tonopalo Formula or jetskis. You might notice a couple of new items on the beach, specifically a new hobiecat sailboat and stand up paddleboards. The paddleboards are all the rage and you can find them all over the lake these days. Grab a board at Tonopalo and give it a try.

TONOPALO REAL ESTATE - There are GREAT opportunities to buy at Tonopalo right now. Tell your family and friends. Home #14 is currently being offered for $235,000! Summer is Really Coming.....I Promise

What a wet June! It has been a wet one up here which has kept things a little slow as of late, but water is much needed in these parts so there are no complaints here. That being said it looks like we are back to typical June weather this weekend with a forecast for clear skies and temps in the mid 70s.

So, bring the boat up (or reserve the Tonopalo Formula), rent some jet skis, try the new paddleboards, bring a good book for the beach, bikes, hiking boots, and all the rest of the toys, cause it's on. Summer in Tahoe!!

There will be plenty to keep you entertained at Tonopalo, but just in case you are out and about here are some other events happening this weekend.

The 37th annual Concours d'Elegance kicks off this Friday at Sierra Boat Co. just down the street in Carnelian Bay. If you enjoy classic wooden boats this is not to be missed. Be sure to look for Clementine, a woody owned by your fellow Tonopalo owners the Linnemans.

Don't miss Tahoe City's summer kick off this weekend, the Summer Solstice Festival includes live music, car shows, and a paddlefest at Commons Beach.

For the bikers out there, the Tour de Nez will be taking place this weekend with a variety of bike races and events throughout the area. The main event will take place Saturday at Northstar. The Thursday night race in downtown Truckee is one of my favorites and I would recommend it if you are up here then.

Summer has kicked off and there is more than enough going on to keep you busy. If you have any questions about events or if there is anything else you need please let me know!

Brighter Skies Ahead?

It has been a wet week up here with showers and thunderstorms just about every day. The temperatures have been nice and the mornings are generally beautiful, but as I recommended last week, get out and ejoy the outdoors early as the afternoons have been bringing unsettled weather.

Another continuation from last week is the great Northstar golf deal. $39 rounds of golf Monday through Thursday this week, June 8th-11th. Advanced tee times are required. Call the pro shop at 530.562.3290

This Saturday is The Bay to Bay Community Clean Up Day in North Lake Tahoe. The clean up will take place along community beaches of North Lake Tahoe. If you are reading this and plan on being in Tahoe it is probably for some vacation time, but if you are on the beach and see a peice of garbage it would be a great gesture to get it to the appropriate trash can. If you would like more information about the event visit http://www.ntbamainstreet.org/.

This Tuesday is the opening day of the Kings Beach Farmer's Market at the Kings Beach State Recreation Area parking lot from 9am-1pm. Where better to visit a farmers market than at the beach on Lake Tahoe?

Other weekend events include a full moon kayak with Tahoe City Kayaks and the annual Truckee Duckee Derby at River Ranch. Plenty to do so come up and enjoy it.

Get up Here

Looks like another gorgeous early summer weekend in Tahoe! My one piece of advise this week would be to get out and play early. We have seen various degrees of afternoon weather coming through the sierra starting between 1-4 in the afternoon and including everything from dark blustery conditions to some light scattered clouds. The forecast is for the same throughout the weekend. So get out and enjoy the early morning sun and heat just in case!

Get out and golf this week! Northstar is offering 18 holes for only $39 this week as part of customer appreciation days. Advanced tee times are required. Offer is good June 1st-June 4th. Call the pro shop at 530-562-3290 for reservations.

Hiking - Crowds are still down, the trails aren't too dusty yet, and there is still some great spring runoff to get out and see. Try the Shirley Canyon hike in Squaw, or Eagle Falls and Eagle Lake above Emerald Bay. Both great early summer hikes. Visit The Weekly's website for directions. Or give me a call anytime.

The mornings have been really calm recently. Great for kayaking or paddleboarding off the beach at Tonopalo.

TONOPALO REAL ESTATE - There are GREAT opportunities to buy at Tonopalo right now. Tell your family and friends. Home #14 is currently being offered for $235,000! Opening Day at the Lake!

It looks like it's going to be a wonderful weekend at Lake Tahoe!

The west shore will host it's third annual "Opening Day at the Lake" with a variety of events including deck opening parties, seaplane displays and fly-bys, and live music. For a complete schedule of events visit http://www.tahoewestshoreassoc.com/. I would recommend trying to get down to homewood on Monday to see the seaplanes. Find out more about the "seaplane splash-in" at http://www.mikebrown-splashin.org/.

All the area golf courses are now open for the season. View the blog from last week for websites to make tee times.

The waterfront at Tonopalo is in full swing. Buoys are all in the water, the Tonopalo Formula is gassed up and ready to go, Bentley has his jet skis in the water ready to ride, and the rest of the flotilla are on the beach ready for owner and guest use. With the weather forecast to be in the mid 70s all weekend, this should be a great opportunity to get some early summer lake time in. Call the front desk (530-546-6500) to book the Formula or jetski rentals.
....Book the Formula Monday for the seaplane fly-in for a really cool day on the lake........

Thanks MOM!

What a wet week! It has been raining off and on since Friday but it looks like a gorgeous weekend is in store for Mother's Day. So get up here!

Mother's Day brunch is one of the best traditions of the occasion and there are some great options to treat mom in North Lake. Try Jake's on the Lake for a complete brunch menu and terrific views of Lake Tahoe.

We are in the midst of the "shoulder season" BUT Squaw Valley is still open for one more weekend of skiing and the hiking and biking are spectacular. If it's warm enough you may even be able to get a kayak or boat ride in too.

The Lake Cushing Classic, an annual pond crossing event at Squaw was postponed from last weekend and is now scheduled to take place this Saturday. This is an event that always proves to be entertaining. Squaw's closing day is this Sunday, so if you still have the ski bug get out there and enjoy it this weekend!

Want a night out without the kids. Wolfdale's restaurant in Tahoe City is offering free childcare courtesy of Little Sprouts Day Care every Saturday night from 6-10pm. For more info call Wolfdales at 530-583-5700

In Tonopalo news the buoys are all in place and the Formula is scheduled to be in the water by the weekend. One more sign that summer is upon us. This time of year is actually great for a boat ride and sightseeing. It is a little cooler but there are no other boats on the lake which makes for a great smooth ride. Call the front desk to make reservations.

Please pass this on to anyone who you think might be interested....

TONOPALO REAL ESTATE - Visit http://www.tonopalosales.com/ for all Tonopalo listings and information. There are some great values including home #2 offered for $699,000 and a share in home #19 for $565,000! Call me now for more info and to view property anywhere!!

Wet May Weekend Ahead?

April showers bring May flowers...right? Oh it's gonna be May this weekend. Well, a couple early showers in May won't hurt anybody. We sure need the moisture!! Yes, it looks like rain this weekend and maybe even into early next week. Well, regardless there is still plenty to enjoy in Tahoe over the next week including skiing across water and of course Cinco de Mayo!

The Annual Lake Cushing Crossing is scheduled to take place this Sunday at Squaw Valley USA. The Cushing Crossing is a wacky end of the season event in which contestants attempt to cross a pond at the bottom of the ski hill on skis, snowboards, or other improvised water crossing devices. Participate if you are brave enough, but if you are not join the celebration as a spectator. Stand back if you want to stay dry! (May be rescheduled if there is bad weather).

Cinco de Mayo will be celebrated in many ways and locations in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee. One of the most convenient for Tonopalo owners and perhaps the most thorough around the lake is taking place at Caliente in Kings Beach. The celebration will begin on Friday and continue through Tuesday, the traditional holiday date (yeah....the 5th of May). So stop by one night (or day) during your stay to take advantage of the great specials. Click Here for a full schedule and call me if you are looking for other options.

It looks like some wet weather is on tap for the weekend but I am thinking we are going to see clearing early next week which will make for some great hiking and biking conditions. If I'm right about the weather and you're still in the neighborhood check out the Sagehen Creek trail. Just north of Truckee on highway 89 this trail should be clear of snow and offers a great early season hike or bike.

Other Notes: Squaw Valley is still open and operating, Brockway Golf Course in Kings Beach and Ponderosa Golf Course in Truckee are now open for the season.

At Tonopalo: The buoys are scheduled to be in the water by the weekend and there are kayaks on the beach....one step closer to summer!

I-80 Roadwork: Remember there is roadwork going on on I-80 right now! Visit http://www.getacross80.com/ for more information and detour times. Don't make the drive longer if you don't have to!

Ski or Golf? What to do?

Well, it's that time of year...."the offseason". Ha!, not here! This is the best time of year in Tahoe in my opinion. Ski in the morning, golf in the afternoon.....or hike in the morning and when you hit the snowline throw on the snowshoes. You can do it all! Golf courses are opening, tennis courts are clear, bike paths have been swept, AND chairlifts are still spinning!...not to mention the fact that you have just about everything to yourself.

On the ski front, Squaw Valley is still open and operating and KT-22 is open through this Sunday and there are $20 lift tickets being offered this Sunday in conjuction with the 101.5FM pool party at high camp. With temperatures scheduled to be below freezing at night it should keep the snow and spring skiing pretty good. So get out for those last days!

Old Brockway Golf Course is now open for the season! Just down the street from Tonopalo, Brockway offers great rates and a classic Tahoe golfing experience. Call for tee times and 2009 rates.

So there is still a lot of snow in the high sierra, but trails are clearing at lake level and in the Truckee area. Don't be afraid to bring the bike or the hiking boots this trip. I have seen a lot of bikers along 89 and around the lake and most say it is a great time to be riding because it is not too hot yet and the road traffic is still very light. If you want to hike try something low elevation in the North Tahoe Regional Park or the Emigrant Trail in Truckee.

I-80 Roadwork: Remeber there is roadwork going on on I-80 right now! Visit http://www.getacross80.com/ for more information and detour times. Don't make the drive longer if you don't have to!

Earth Day

What a wonderful weekend for an Earth Day celebration with blue skies and temperatures forecast to be near 70 degrees!

Squaw Valley is hosting the North Lake Tahoe Truckee Earth Day Festival 2009 this weekend. This year's theme is "Living Local". The celebration will include live music, an eco-parade, and a number of vendors educating and promoting eco products. This is a great event for the whole family if you are not skiing this Saturday...or even after a great day on the hill.

If you are going to ski this weekend take advantage of a $25 ticket to Squaw Valley on Sunday! Squaw is sponsoring a Skiing for Schools day. Tickets CANNOT be purchased at the resort and must be pre-purchased at Porters Ski Shop (Tahoe City, Truckee, or Incline) or online at http://www.exined.com/.

The ski season is over for some including Alpine Meadows and Northstar. The two resorts will be closed for the season after skiing on Sunday. Northstar is offering a $40 ticket good for both Saturday and Sunday this weekend in celebration of earth day. This ticket can only be purchased online and is obviously a heck of a deal!

Alpine Meadows will host a variety of events for their closing weekend including live music, a snow golf tourney, and the mad cow downhill (a chinese downhill style race). Visit their website for all the event details.

There is a lot going on this weekend in Tahoe and again, it is gonna be Gorgeous! So, get to the hill, the earth day celebration, or just grab a chair and get some early season beach time in at Tonopalo.

Please pass this page on to anyone who you think might be interested....

TONOPALO REAL ESTATE Visit the Tonopalo Sales website for listings and information. If you know anyone interested in the property tell them to act now! Happy Easter

Well, it's Easter weekend in the sierra an of course there's snow....well for now anyway. It is snowing as I write this but it looks as though it will clear up for the weekend and for the early part of next week. Should be back to great spring skiing! Visit the Tahoe Weather Geek for a great local forecast or another favorite of mine Weather Underground for a 7 day forecast.

There are Easter festivities just about everywhere this weekend including the regular brunches and Easter egg hunts. Northstar and Alpine will be hosting on hill Easter egg hunts for the kids and Squaw Valley will have the bunny out as well. Alpine Meadows will actually have a golden egg located on the ski hill that contains a 2009/2010 midweek season pass....so keep your eyes out for that one!

Another popular Easter activity is brunch of course and just about every area restaurant is hosting such an event. One of my favorite Easter brunches is at Moody's Bistro in Truckee. Have a great big brunch with the family and walk it off by perusing the local shops in historic downtown Truckee.

Spring has Sprung!

Yes, it is here, spring weather, spring skiing and of course spring parties. Live outdoor music, pool parties, and great corn snow are on the schedule for this weekend at all the Lake Tahoe resorts.

Temperatures are forecast to be pushing 60 degrees by Saturday and with a great base of snow from recent storms the sping skiing should be excellent.

Squaw Valley is hosting the Sprint U.S. Freestyle Champoinship this weekend bringing some of the best mogul and halfpipe skiers in the nation to the hill. The mogul event takes place under the Red Dog chairlift at the Squaw Valley base area, while the halfpipe competition will be at the Riviera Terrain Park at mid-mountain. The event includes great parties at 22 Bistro in the village on Friday night (featuring guest bartender Jonny Moseley) and a High Camp pool party on Saturday afternoon from 2-5pm. Visit the website for a complete schedule of competition and events.

Other fun spring events include free ice skating in the Northstar Village, Live music at Alpine Meadows on Saturday afternoon, or....here's one for the kids, go over to Tahoe Donner Ski Area on Saturday the 28th to witness a 200 foot long banana split! That right, over 200 bananas and 40 gallons of vanilla ice cream will be put together with all the toppings to create this beast. The tasty treat is being served from 1-2pm so don't be late.

So, hit the hill, watch some great skiing, or just jump in a kayak for a little paddle on the calm spring water on the lake this weekend. It should be a great one!

First Days of Spring Bring Snow to Tahoe

You have to love the weather up here, after enjoying almost 60 degree weather for the past few days it looks like it will all change for the weekend. It's officially Spring and a storm is brewing in the Gulf of Alaska that has the potential to leave over a foot of new snow in the higher elevations of the Sierra! Visit the Tahoe Weather Geek for a great discussion about Tahoe weather conditions and forecasts.

Also today, Squaw Valley is starting an anniversary pass sale. Included in the sale are $179 spring passes that are valid for the remainder of the 2009 season starting on March 29th. But, the best deal being offered by Squaw are season passes for next season starting at $369!!...yes $369. That is unprecedented for Squaw Valley. The passes are being offered in celebration of Squaw Valley's 60th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the 1960 Winter Olympics at the resort. The passes are only being offered until May 11th and quantities are limited so get the the Squaw website soon.

Another great area offering comes from Moody's Bistro in Truckee and Baxter's at Northstar which are both offering their full wine lists at retail pricing! If you are up for night out this might be a good option.

Long Days

What a difference 6 feet makes!! The mountains are all skiing great again, the sun is shining bright, and it looks like the last couple months of the ski season are going to be spectacular!

After the storms of last week Tahoe ski areas are reporting anywhere from 4 to 7 feet of new snow! The skiing has been fantastic and the month of March is loaded with great events so come enjoy it up here!

The big event of next week is St Patrick's Day of course but there are others too. One event I would recommend is the Abilities Bash, a fundraiser for Disabled Sports USA Far West. The event takes place Saturday March 14th at the lodge at Alpine Meadows from 7-10:30 PM. The Ability Bash will honor Wounded Warriors returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. For more info visit http://www.disabledsports.net/ or call (530) 582-4161.

Jake's on the Lake is combing the spirit of giving with the St. Patrick's Holiday. Their holiday celebration on the 17th will include discounts, traditional Irish food, charity raffles benefiting Disabled Sports USA, and live music starting at 6pm. For detail call (530) 583-0188.
