June Already?

Yes, June 1st is this Sunday...it sure doesn't feel like it though. It was cold and wet all week up at the lake, but it is looking like we are working our way towards some better weather.

So, it is still a little quiet up here before summer really starts. There are not a lot of events, but it is a great time to get out and enjoy the peace and quiet on the water or hiking and biking trails.

HIKING The trails are actually in great shape right now due to all the spring moisture we have seen (the wetness keeps the dust down). A nice casual hike that provides some spectacular scenery is in Emerald Bay. You can park at Eagle Falls and hike either down towards Lower Eagle Falls and Emerald Bay or uphill to Upper Eagle Falls and further on if you'd like towards Desolation Wilderness. Either way there are some great views and the water should still be flowing heavily this time of year.

BIKING Northstar at Tahoe is open on weekends for lift serviced riding (not a bad way to do it, especially considering that they have made drastic improvements to their beginner and intermediate riding). Or just run down to Olympic Bike Shop in Tahoe City, rent a bike and ride to River Ranch for lunch. The river is not covered in rafters yet so it is a nice quiet and beautiful ride.

EVENTS The big event of the weekend is the 15th Annual Charity Fishing Derby Sunday June 1st. With prizes including season ski passes and up to $1000 Cash, this event draws a big crowd. The Fishing starts bright and early but stop by for the brunch at Jake's on the Lake from 11 - 1:30...maybe you will catch sight of some of the big fish (the record for largest Mackinaw caught in Lake Tahoe is 36 lb. 6oz.!).

OTHER NEWS I just visited with the sales team at the new Hyatt in Northstar. They are offering a really amazing product there. It is nothing close to Tonopalo of course (there is no lake at Northstar yet) but the building is truly ski-in/ski-out. Anyway, more importantly they are offering free stays in the village at Northstar to prospective buyers who would like to visit the property. Call or e-mail me for more information on this one.

On that note, Timilick Tahoe (a golf course community in Truckee) is offering a $99 Weekend Getaway Package that includes a 3 day/ 2 night stay and a property tour. Again, contact me for more info.

TONOPALO REAL ESTATE Home #8 is now priced at $325,000. This is a steal for this home! 2300 square feet with 3 bedrooms and a den! Visit http://www.tonopalosales.com/ for more information on available shares.

Opening Day at the Lake (Memorial Day Weekend)

At least that is what many call memorial day weekend, and it sure seems to hold true with the number of events taking place this weekend.

EVENTS The weekend is chock a block with deck opening parties, park openings, and of course barbeques and music. The west shore association is hosting "Opening Day at the Lake" which includes deck opening parties at Sunnyside, Chamber's Landing, and the Bridgetender, openings and tours of Vikingsholm and the Erhman Mansion, boat shows, and best yet a seaplane splash-in. Last year about 12 seaplanes splashed down on west shore for the day and this year they are expecting up to 24. These planes will be of all types from all eras. The schedule is for a fly in on Monday morning followed by a barbeque and a fly by finale that afternoon. Weather permitting this could be a great sight to see. Here are the photos from last year http://www.mikebrownsplashin.com/menuphotos.htm. This could be a great event to book the Tonopalo Formula for....

Another heralded event this weekend is the Grand Opening of the newly built Tahoe Maritime Museum. Opening day will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 11:30am on Saturday the 24th. There will be tours, refreshments and of course raffle prizes. The prizes include gift certificates from local businesses....AND, everyone who joins the museum on opening day will be entered for the grand prize, a cruise for four aboard the famed Thunderbird yacht combined with a private tour of the Thunderbird Lodge!! This is the best raffle prize I have seen in a long time!

FOOD After a few years hiatus Captain Jon's will be back in business. The location was filled for the past few summers with various seasonal restaurateurs, but this summer will be re-opening as the original Captain Jon's. Right down the street from Tonopalo and with beautiful lake views this could be a welcome addition to the north shore dining scene. They open this weekend, so if you go you'll have to let me know how it is. Reservations can be made by calling 530-546-4819.

BIKING The Northstar mountain bike park returns to operation this weekend with the scheduled opening of the Gondola (2 more lifts to follow when conditions permit). Just like everyone else Northstar has a full weekend of events planned including Giant bike demos on friday.

GOLF All golf courses are open by this weekend! Northstar is offering early season rates through June that include $50 for 18-holes. Call the front desk for tee times.

BOATING Just a reminder that jet skis are available for rent right at Tonopalo through Thomas Brothers Moto Sports (that's Bentley and his brother Ronnie) by calling the front desk or 530-448-1087. And don't forget about the Tonopalo Formula. It is in the water and ready to cruise the lake. Call the front desk for reservations.

TONOPALO REAL ESTATE Home #2 is now priced at $749,000. This is a steal for this home! Visit http://www.tonopalosales.com/ for more information on available shares.

80 Degrees is the Forecast for Tahoe This Weekend

That right, 80 or hotter even. It's a funny time of year right now....ski resorts closed....it's not quite summer. Some call it the shoulder season, but there is so much to do in Tahoe right now that no one can get bored.

BOATING Well the Tonopalo Formula is in the water and Bentley has his Jetskis available for rent so come up and enjoy this early taste of summer!! Call the Tonopalo front desk now to book some time on the Formula (530-546-6500) or call Thomas Brothers Moto Sports at 530-448-1087 to reserve a jetski for a few hours while you are here. It will be a great weekend to be on the water....get out now before the crowds!

HIKING There is still a ton of snow in the high country but there is already plenty of great hiking access. It is a great time to hike because the trails are not too dusty or crowded and in the right places you can see some beautiful spring runoff. Try the Shirley Canyon hike in Squaw Valley to see the water runoff at it's height. There are actually some big waterfalls right now....I would recommend staying in the right side of the river on your way up the canyon as it is south facing and has less snow. Either way it is a great hike. Feel free to call or e-mail me for other suggestions.

EVENTS So you've been all over the north shore on the Tonopalo kayaks....well, maybe it's time to get a little more adventurous. Explore the east shore of Lake Tahoe at the Community Paddle this Saturday at Sand Harbor. This is a great way to explore and learn more about the east shore of the lake.....one of the best kayaking spots around.

TONOPALO The deep cleans and tile work are completed and the property is looking great! Here are some pictures from this past week. Notice that the beach is back....the tentative estimates are that the lake will come up about another foot before going back down. So, there will be a great beach at Tonopalo all summer.

The buoy field is a little empty, but the kayaks are out and the Formula is summer ready!

TONOPALO REAL ESTATE Home #9 listed at $359,00. Call me about this one. Seller is motivated. This could be a great opportunity for someone you know! Visit http://www.tonopalosales.com/ for more information on available shares.

Here's to the End of Another Great Ski Season

SKIING Well, after another great ski season Squaw Valley (the last ski resort open in Tahoe) will close this weekend. All good things come to an end right. There are only a few lifts still running, but if you still have the urge to get some turns in you better get out there while you can. All lifts will close at 4PM this Sunday.

GOLF The end of one season means the start of another. That's right, Summer is right around the corner. The buoys are in the water at Tonopalo, the kayaks are on the beach and golf courses are cleared of snow and getting ready to open. In fact Old Brockway golf course in Kings Beach is already open for play daily. Here are the scheduled opening dates for other golf courses in the area: Northstar -May 10th (front nine and driving range only), Old Greenwood - May 16th, Tahoe Donner and Coyote Moon - May 23rd.

MOMS DAY What are you gonna do with mom this weekend? Run down the road to Gar Woods and treat mom to a great mother's day brunch. Or if you want to get a little more adventurous take her to High Camp at Squaw Valley for their Mother's Day brunch. Either way you will get some great food and excellent views.

EVENTS One of the big events this weekend is the Reno River Festival. Head down to Reno to watch pro kayakers compete in various disciplines while enjoying music, food, and beverage on the Truckee River. Remember it is usually about 10-15 degrees warmer in Reno than at the lake so prepare for a little warmer weather. I have never been, but have heard that it is great fun.

REAL ESTATE There are some great deals at Tonopalo right now. If you have any friends or family interested now is a great time to buy!! Home #5 just came on the market at $425,000...this is a 3 bedroom, 3 and a half bath home with great views . Don't let your friends miss this opportunity! Visit www.tonopalosales.com for more information on available shares.

Cinco de Mayo!!

Yes, it's May already, and the traditional Mexican holiday (or maybe not) is this Monday and there are plenty of celebrations scheduled for our area. The Biltmore is hosting one of the larger area celebrations in their parking lot on Sunday the 4th to include food, drink and live music. And as you might guess, just about every Mexican restaurant will be hosting their own parties. A favorite of mine is El Tor Bravo in Truckee which will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo by having their summer deck opening party this Sunday.

For a little more action you can still hit the slopes. Squaw Valley is still in operation and Alpine Meadows will be celebrating it's closing weekend of the 2007/08 season. Alpine will go out with a bang...and bands. There will be live music both Saturday and Sunday on the sundeck and if you want to see some action be there to watch the mad cow downhill on Saturday. This is an all out group race from the top of Alpine to the bottom and with a 2008/09 season pass going to the winner....should be exciting.

OK, so it is May and you've had enough of this skiing stuff. I don't blame you...putting ski boots on right now sounds pretty tough. Well, Brockway Golf course is now open for the summer!! Head on down the street and play 9 for only $35. Or, just stroll down to the beach at Tonopalo and grab a kayak (yes they are on the beach and ready to go) and take a cruise. This is a great time of year to kayak. The temps are warm and there are really no boats out on the lake yet so you get to enjoy calm waters and the real beauty of Lake Tahoe.

You have to love Spring in the Sierras!! You can do it all. Get up here and enjoy it while you can!

In addition to the kayaks the buoy field is back in place and the Tonopalo Formula is scheduled to be in the water on the 15th of this month. Summer here we come!!

Home #2 at Tonopalo, a premier 3 bedroom, 4.5 bath home with a large den.....now listed for $769,000! This is a great opportunity. Tell your friends now! As always, you can visit http://www.tonopalosales.com/ for current Tonopalo listings and property information.
